Carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota's Black Hills, the 60-foot sculpted faces of presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln represent the nation's birth, growth, development, and preservation. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum and 400 workers spent 14 years creating this monumental tribute to American democracy.
